Jesus Is Calling You Forward
Luke 13:10-13
10 On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, 11 and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. 12 When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, "Woman, you are set free from your infirmity." 13 Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.
We mentioned a couple of days ago how Jesus "made obsolete" the old covenant and with it many Jewish laws and customs. In the Gospel of Luke there are twenty-four references about women. Luke clearly shows the importance of the role of women in Jesus' ministry. He shows Jesus again breaking the rules by healing this woman on the Sabbath and calling her a "daughter of Abraham" (Lk 13:16). What's the point? Jesus calls this woman forward from the back of the room, the place for all the women. He calls her forward to the place where all the men gathered. According to their custom, tradition, and laws, the woman did not belong up front, especially in the physical condition this particular woman was in! It's just like Jesus to take the lowly, down and out, rejected one in the back, pull them forward and place them in the forefront for all to see the Father's glory be revealed.
Mothers, where are you standing today? Jesus is calling you forward to reveal the Father's glory in your life. Take those first steps toward deliverance and healing and let these words echo in your heart "Woman, you are set free from your infirmity."
Have a great day! God bless you.
